Ministers quizzed over recent floods

(January 20, 2016)

Mark has now received answers to a series of Written Questions to Ministers from different government departments about the recent floods in Preston and the surrounding region.

Defra Ministers (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) were asked what funding would be made available to carry out remedial work on the flood defences at the banks of the River Ribble. They were also asked how much communication they had had with Dutch flood agency, Rijkswaterstaat regarding long-term flood prevention measures.

Another recent question to the Department for Communities and Local Government asks what plans are being made to update planning guidance on using funds from planning agreements [Section 106] to pay for flood prevention projects.  The department was also asked how many £500 grants were provided to households affected by flooding in Lancashire.

There were further questions to the member responsible for Church Commissioners about the Anglican Churches responses to the flooding in December 2015 as well as the extent of damage to church buildings and Church of England schools.
