Election Victory for Mark

(May 08, 2015)

Mark has today thanked voters, party members and activists following his re-election as Member of Parliament for Preston in the 2015 General Election.

 Election night

Mark won by 12,067 majority with 18,755 votes taking 56% of the votes in the Preston constituency seat.  The people of Preston have re-elected him with strong support with his nearest opponent gaining only 6,688 votes.

Mark said: ‘I am extremely grateful to the people of Preston for once again putting their faith in me and returning me to Parliament for another term.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank voters, party members, activists and all my colleagues who have worked very hard over the last six weeks in the run up to the local and general elections.

Congratulations to all the candidates who retained their seat and a special congratulations to our newest Councillors, Peter Moss (Riversway) and Rebecca Yates (Larches).  I hope to work closely with them in the future along with my Labour Colleagues to ensure that our constituents get as fair a deal as possible from a Conservative Government.

Whilst I am very pleased with the result here in Preston and in the region, I am of course very concerned about the picture nationally and how the new Government’s plans will negatively impact upon my constituents.  I will be returning to Parliament later this month to be sworn in and then the real battle will begin to ensure that all the issues of concern that were raised with me on the campaign trail can be protected and saved.’
