Fracking debate in Westminster Hall

(December 20, 2012)

Makr recently attended and particpated in a Westminster Hall Debate titled "Shale Gas Profits".

Mark made the case for safety regulations to be the Governments main priority so that Earth tremours which occurred in Blackpool are not repeated.

Mark said: "The Secretary of State has made it clear that the exploratory and experimental phase that has been given the go-ahead for the next two years may yield results that highlight the need for new regulation.

"However, that amounts to using Lancashire as a guinea pig for the rest of the country. That is a cavalier approach to serious industrial activity, and above all to the people of my constituency and Lancashire as a whole, who could be subjected to the earth tremors that Blackpool experienced"
