Unemployment at highest rate since 1995

(February 15, 2012)

3,204 people were unemployed in Preston in January 2012 but statistics also revealed that young people are bearing the brunt of the Governments austerity measures.

Mark said “These figures confirm what young people in Preston already know – this Government is creating a lost generation.

“Long term youth unemployment in Preston is up 284.6% in the last year, yet the government has still not properly replaced Labour’s successful Future Jobs fund. Our young people are been left to pay the price for this government’s failure”.

“Complacent and out of touch Ministers need to wake up to the jobs crisis they're responsible for and take urgent action now.
