Mark questions Prime Minister

(February 09, 2012)

At Prime Ministers Questions Mark demanded answers from David Cameron after the decision by the Indian Government that French defence company Dassault would be the preferred partner for a multi billion pound fighter jet contract rather than BAE systems

Mark said “The people of Preston are furious that the Indian Government have selected a French company as their preferred bidder for the Indian air force jet contract.

The Prime Minister repeatedly talks about rebalancing the British economy, but this is a major blow to manufacturing in this country. Other European leaders go to help their companies get major contracts.

Why is this weak Prime Minister not doing that and why have we not got the contract with the Indian Government??”

The Prime Minister responded with "Eurofighter is not out of the contest and we need to reengage as hard as we can to make sure that we get the best deal for all those workers in Britain who make Eurofighters"

Mark blasted the response as "pathetic" and added "Mr Cameron says that Typhoon is not out of the race for this contract, which is correct, but what is he doing to give it the best chance of winning it?

We have a long relationship going back decades with India and I want to see the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary out in India reminding them of this."
