Mark secures debate on BAE job losses in the House of Commons

(October 21, 2011)

Mark has today secured a debate in the House of Commons to discuss BAE job losses in Lancashire. The move follows recent announcements by BAE that it plans to axe 3000 jobs across the country.

Mark said: “The decision to axe 1387 jobs at Warton and Samlesbury sites is a devastating blow. It will have a major impact, not least on the workers and their families, but also for the wider community and economy.

The massive cuts the government are making to the defence industry are going too far and too fast. Earlier this month I asked the Leader of the House of Commons for an opportunity to debate the impact that the job losses will have. The government refused. It is clear that they do not understand the impact that their decisions are having on people’s lives. As a result, I have submitted my own debate which will take place in the House of Commons on Thursday 27th October 2011.”
