Mark is hopeful for improved City Centre plans

(September 15, 2011)

Mark has added his support to local business leaders who have joined the drive to the ‘Support Our Shops’ campaign to help High Street businesses in Preston after it emerged that one in five shops in Preston remain empty.

Of the Council's plans, Mark said: “They should be looking at rent and car parking provision to make sure the offer to businesses maximises revenue to the council and takes into consideration the profitability of the businesses that occupy the units.”

Elsewhere in the city centre, advanced talks are underway with an investor to inject £300 into a new office quarter in the city centre, located on the Hill Street car park.

Mark said: “This is a welcome move, one which is long overdue which I hope will bring new jobs and new retail opportunity to the centre of Preston.  I think it’s important that investors continue to invest in the city as we want the city centre to thrive and be vibrant, lively and attractive.  This is an expression of confidence in city centre Preston and I look forward to seeing this development come to fruition.”
