Mark launches 'Rock The Week' Music Competition

(March 04, 2011)

Mark is inviting applications from musicians and live music venues from Preston following the launch of ‘Rock The House’, a national music competition in search of talented new artists and venues from across the UK.

‘Rock The House’ is a music competition with a political twist; supporting unsigned bands and artists, it will raise political awareness of the importance of music and other creative businesses to the UK.

The competition was officially launched at The Sanctum Soho Hotel in London’s West End on Friday 4th February, by Mike Weatherley MP, to an audience of key music industry professionals and politicians.

Supported by a myriad of big names within music, including key sponsors UK Music and Future Publishing, the competition has already attracted significant interest from a number of chart toppers.

Mike Weatherley MP said; “Both culturally and economically, music is hugely important to this country. My hope is to put the spotlight on some very important issues within the music industry and increase political support to ensure that the UK’s composers, artists and musicians can continue to dominate the world stage.”

Rock The House offers entry categories covering both Live Bands and Live Music Venues – and is open for entries now. Bands and venues are invited to enter themselves, via their MP, who will make nominations to a judging panel of music industry heavyweights on behalf of their own constituencies. Prizes include a winner’s reception and performance at the House of Commons, the opportunity to perform live at a top music venue and two festivals in 2011, Yamaha gear and instruments, and the opportunity to record an original CD and music video.

Mark Hendrick MP said: “This is a very exciting competition; the region is a hotbed for aspiring musical talent and this is a great opportunity for unsigned bands, musicians and live venues to get themselves noticed and showcase their talents. I have been asked to nominate the best band and venue from my constituency and I would hope to put forward the best musical talent that Preston has to offer”.

Sponsors and supporters include: UK Music, Future Publishing, EMI, Yamaha, Consumer Focus, Incorporated Society of Musicians, and All Party Parliamentary Group on Music (APPG).

Contact Mark Hendrick MP’s Constituency Office on 01772 883575 to enter the competition. Entries can be submitted until the closing date of 31st March 2011. Further details and the official application form are available online at: . Winners will be announced by the end of May and all competition finalists will be invited to attend an exclusive star-studded event on the Terrace of the House of Commons on 30th June.
