Hendrick backs Dragons Den Tenner Tycoon Campaign

(March 11, 2011)

Mark has announced his support for a scheme that sees school children encouraged to start a business with just £10 each, in the biggest ever ‘Tenner Tycoon’ challenge.

Mark is backing the scheme, called Tenner Tycoon, which will see the campaigning charity Enterprise UK, supported by Dragon’s Den Peter Jones, loan hundreds of thousands of pounds to young people across the UK to encourage them to start up their own businesses. Participants in Tenner Tycoon will receive £10 and be challenged to make as much profit as they can in a month whilst benefitting their local community.

Mark said: “Tenner Tycoon is an innovative scheme that gives young people in Preston and all over the UK the chance to showcase their skills and ingenuity, whilst gaining practical business experience. We need to support initiatives like this that aim to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and therefore ensure the future prosperity of the UK.”

This year, the challenge is to also ‘give something back’ and participants are encouraged to donate some of their profits to charity. The scheme was launched in 2007 and previous winners have made profits in diverse ways such as fashion shows, cookery books and concerts, with one entry last year making an impressive £920 profit from a single ten pound note!

The competition will run from 1st March – 31st March and offers up to 40,000 young people under the age of 19 to make money, make a difference and give something back. Once the challenge is over, participants are asked to return their original loan and keep or donate the profit they made. Awards are offered to the student/students who have the biggest profit, deliver the most social impact or the best business idea.
