Mark tables EDM congratulating UCLan for assisting AUC students after Hurricane Irma

Mark has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the House of Commons to recognise the tremendous efforts by the University of Central Lancashire to rehome more than 700 medical students and staff displaced as a result of Hurricane Irma.

Early Day Motion 371 entitled ‘UCLan and the Medical Students displaced by Hurricane Irma’ reads: ‘That this House welcomes the tremendous initiative of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston in accepting more than 700 students and staff from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine on the island of Saint Maarten, which was hit by Hurricane Irma; congratulates UCLan on the speed with which it has acted to rescue the studies of hundreds of students; and commends the East Lancashire NHS Hospitals Trust in facilitating the clinical training of the students.

The motion has been sponsored by MPs, Catherine West, Rosie Cooper, Kate Hollern, Marie Rimmer and Kate Green and has attracted 12 signatures since it was tabled on 11th October 2017.
